January 24, 2012, proved a fateful night for a 22 year old college student who was at a party with friends. Her friends begged her not to drive since she had been drinking. Her friends told news reporters that she had joked about not being that drunk when she left. Atlanta DUI lawyers caution people not to drive if they have been drinking anything at all. There is just no way to know how a person’s body will metabolize the alcohol. One drink can put some people over the legal limit of .08.

After she left, she drove up Interstate 75 where she came upon an accident that was being worked by Atlanta Police officers. One of those officers was a 26 year veteran female officer. The 22 year old student struck and killed the police officer as she was directing traffic around the accident. The officer is survived by her own 22 year old daughter.
